It's not just that it was a serial killer, but how closely connected the characters were to people who were being killed. There was no mention of a serial killer (much less one who drowned women), which may have better prepared me for the contents. The back cover did not shed light about how dark the content would be. So, for you readers who are debating whether or not to read this book, here are my thoughts. I know other readers who enjoy suspense may like this book, but it was not for me. since I'm given permission for my honest review, that is what I'll stick with. Her writing style is enjoyable and well-rounded.Ĭontent. As far as writing style and ability, I admire Coble. I'll be honest up front: this is probably the hardest book review I've had to write.

This modern take tries to "subtly upend the Madonna-whore trope that's in the original movie, where there's this lovely housewife, homemaker, and then this sex-crazed psycho bunny boiler," Peet said in an interview with CBC News.Ī mainstay of 1980s and '90s cinema, the erotic thriller wave spawned movies such as Body Heat, Indecent Proposal, Disclosure, Basic Instinct, Showgirls and Dressed To Kill - typically nail-biters with an illicit or romantic affair at their centre. But our conception of sexual politics and power dynamics have shifted drastically since those days. But this depiction conveys more empathy for its femme fatale Alex and harsher consequences for its male protagonist, Dan. The limited series reimagines the steamy-scary 1987 hit, in which a married man and his family are tormented by a troubled woman after a one-night stand. Amanda Peet knew making an erotic thriller in 2023 would be complicated when she accepted a role in the television adaptation of Fatal Attraction. I am such a big fan of Saga, I have an Alana and Marko action figure set and all nine paperback editions and the three hardback deluxe collections at home. When it was announced that the first half of the series was going to be coming out as a single compendium, I knew I had to have it. The end of issue 54 devastated me and the extra-long wait for issue 55 is killing me. I have re-read it about three to four times. Saga is my favourite graphic novel series. It was originally due to be released in October 2019 but instead dropped into stores early on 21 August 2019. Saga Compendium One contains the first 54 issues of the Eisner award-winning and New York Times bestselling graphic novel series. Saga is narrated by Hazel who tells the story of her life in a series of flashbacks, starting from the moment of her birth. Saga tells the story of Hazel, a young child born into war, to a pair of star-crossed lovers. Vaughan told Entertainment Weekly that the first 54 issues of Saga was going to be released in a single, massive paperback compendium. Wandering Star is the second book in the series, and it follows ex-Guardian Rhoma Grace, who has been shamed and cast out by the entire Zodiac Galaxy because she led an armada that backfired and led to the death of many, many people. I have never really been one for science fiction and fantasy, but this series is one that caught my interest from the first page and refuses to let me go. I received an ARC copy of Wandering Star in exchange for an honest review, and let me just say, I was so excited when Romina DMed us and told us we were getting a copy! Amber and I are both huge fans of Zodiac, the first book in the series, which we read last year and absolutely loved. In addition to revealing House Virgo's weapon, we're also going to be posting Jessica's review of Wandering Star again! Here's what she has to say about the book: Some Ministers carry several vials of poison to dip their Thorns in, sometimes to paralyze and sometimes to kill. Next, Virgos use their training in the art of stealth to sneak up on their targets with an elegant and small-but-deadly dagger called a Thorn. First, they activate the Veil collar, which turns the wearer invisible. When under attack, Virgo’s Ministers vanish and turn deadly with the Veil and Thorn. Not luffy-duffy romance, but stories with other elements mixed in. Maybe that’s why I prefer writing action scenes over descriptive settings! Except for the 18+ scenes which I have to write in a separate room, becau Hi there! My name is EJ Smyth, I live in Frankfurt, Germany and I’m passionate about romance. I do love having them around and I’ve gotten used to writing with a background noise of Grand Theft Auto and teenage histrionics. And my kids are teenagers, so not much help there either. Paranormal romance, romantic thrillers, gay romance, if it’s got two difficult characters finding each other, I’m on board! I write at my living room table, usually covered with folded laundry because I couldn’t be bothered to tidy before sitting down. Hi there! This loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast is one of my faves. There will be other blogs for Sci-Fi and Dystopian book series down the road! There’s nothing like getting super immersed in a magical world, in fierce characters and romantic relationships, in a daring and captivating plot - it’s the best! I am a huge fan of the YA genre and young adult fantasy series are my absolute jam. For years, the book I carted with me from one side of the river to the other was Gordon Korman’s This Can’t Be Happening at Macdonald Hall, the first in a series set, in the way I like my books, somewhere thrillingly just beyond the world I lived in: Children of divorce learn to manufacture their own forms of certainty, and for me that lay in the books I put in the black back-and-forth bag, the alternate universes to which I could depart upon demand. We had a library card for each side of the divide, separate Blockbuster memberships, different breakfast cereals. This all took place in the not overwhelmingly Jewish state of Wisconsin, although where precisely we lived was hard to say, since we commuted between our parents’ two houses, duplexes located on opposite sides of the Milwaukee River. On Fridays we had an assembly called Shabbat Sing, where we sang the Israeli national anthem before adjourning to our classrooms to bless Dixie cups of Manischewitz grape juice. The flavor was a loose mix of denominations, prayer preceded graham cracker snack time, and the basketball team, called Judah and the Maccabees, always beat our Orthodox school rivals, who had to pause and bless their yarmulkes when they fell off during the course of a game. As children my brothers and I attended a Jewish day school. Boy meets girl in a cool campus (moving away from the IIT/ IIM to Stephens, probably in an attempt to widen the reader base), and falls in love. Talking about the book, it is very much in the genre of the author s previous offerings. So much that the book is separated into three sections called Acts. Every page of the book feels like it has been written to be made into a movie. This is a book with the complete dialogues of a movie, sentence after sentence. In fact I could see someone like Arjun/ Ranveer playing Madhav and Deepika playing a Ria. Is this a book or a screen play is what kept confusing me while I was reading this book. He fell in love with a rich girl from Delhi called Riya. Once upon a time, there was a Bihari boy called Madhav. Book deals nicely with the poverty, terrorism, depression during world war 2 and world political problems. Madhav and Riya make a good story and it takes new turns when they go on spaceship and explore new intergalactical planetary systems. By vinoth on October 7, 2014Įxcellent book.
